Groups of Objects

For this exercise i was asked to put together 6 objects of varying size, weight and material and using just 1 colour to describe the group of objects paying attention to the weight, shine and relation to each other.

I chose rectangular boxes, circular fruit and candle holder and cylinders made of metal and glass. I placed them in an order that i personally found pleasing.

I first decided to use graphite pencil to draw out the group of objects as this is a medium i am very comfortable with, i paid attention to where each object was in relation the the others and also if it was transparent or not and also where the light and hit metallic or shiny objects.

After finishing this piece i decided i was going to try the same group of objects again but this time in charcoal, i also moved them around ever so slightly so i could add a cloth underneath to add an extra texture and some more interest.

Charcoal is not something i have use a lot previously but overall was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the results. The fabric i think added a lot to the picture and it helped tie the objects together better. I did find the fabric the most challenging of all the materials to draw so will defiantly be practise this more in my sketch book.
